Project Manager Engineering

As an Engineer in Offshore & Shipbuilding, you play a crucial role in creating safe, sustainable and efficient projects on or offshore. From shipbuilding to floating offshore platforms.

Responsibilities

• For our client, a leading shipbuilder in modern cargo vessels we are looking for a Project Manager Engineering, this client designs, builds, and delivers multipurpose cargo ships that operate worldwide. With over 200 vessels delivered, their designs are continuously optimized for fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, and functionality.
• Due to growing global demand, the organization is expanding its operations.
• This position can be based at either the Gorinchem or Drachten, the Netherlands.
• As Project Manager Engineering, you will oversee the engineering scope of shipbuilding projects from concept to delivery. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 engineers and coordinate outsourced engineering activities with external firms. Your core responsibilities include:
• Taking ownership of assigned projects to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and at the desired quality level.
• Managing technical project aspects including scope definition, planning, progress tracking, and decision-making.
• Providing leadership to engineers and suppliers within the project team.
• Coordinating the exchange of information across departments, locations, and stakeholders.
• Collaborating closely with the overall Project Manager on technical matters.
• Ensuring timely resolution of issues and adherence to project deadlines.
• Maintaining compliance with industry standards, regulations, and supplier interface requirements.
• Organizing and participating in project integration reviews.
• Reviewing project documentation including updated plans, progress, and production reports.
• Attending and contributing to key testing activities such as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) tests, Harbour Acceptance Tests (HAT), and Sea Acceptance Tests (SAT).

Requirements

• You are proactive, quality-conscious, and capable of managing complex engineering challenges. The ideal candidate offers:
• A bachelor’s degree in Maritime Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in engineering and design within shipbuilding or offshore projects.
• Solid leadership and problem-solving skills under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail and a structured, pragmatic approach.
• Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.
• Willingness to travel occasionally as required by project needs.
