What does an health and safety job involve?

HSE is a complex challenge for any technical project. HSE officers must be versatile and possess skills in all areas of health, safety and environment. As early as the design stage of a project, HSE managers must identify and manage all applicable safety risks. In consultation with the project manager, you will implement an effective occupational health and safety system and evaluate all occupational health and safety requirements.

During the operational stage of the project, HSE officers conduct hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRAs), develop workplace instructions and investigate accidents. You will ensure a strong focus on safety within the project team by organising toolbox meetings and LMRAs.

In general, HSE consists of five distinct disciplines:

  • Risk assessments
  • Process safety
  • Environment, sustainability and CSR
  • Occupational hygiene
  • Improvement of safety culture

Whether you are a novice, an established professional or a highly experienced HSE specialist, STAR can help you take the next step in your career.
