As an Engineer in Offshore & Shipbuilding, you play a crucial role in creating safe, sustainable and efficient projects on or offshore. From shipbuilding to floating offshore platforms.

Responsibilities

  • The Instrument Department is responsible for the design of Process Control and Instrumentation Systems, Integrated Control & Safety Systems, Fire & Gas Systems, and Communication Systems. This includes all associated field devices such as instruments and valves, as well as bulk materials like cables and tubing.
  • During the FEED, Basic, and Detailed phases of a project, designers and engineers begin by defining the concept and progressively work out system details. They incorporate vendor data and collaborate closely with sub-contractors to prepare detailed documentation for construction, commissioning, and operation. By using reputable suppliers, standardized solutions, and experienced contractors, the department delivers high-quality results within tight timeframes.
  • Tasks:
  • The role of the PrincipalTelecom Engineer includes the following responsibilities:
  • Develop project-specific system designs along with all associated documentation (philosophies, layouts, specifications, block diagrams, calculations, etc.).
  • Act as the package engineer for Telecom packages and collaborate with Supply Chain to conduct technical bid evaluations.
  • Consistently consider cost, constructability, operability, and maintainability in all designs and decisions.
  • Lead the Telecom team and manage the flow of information to remote teams and/or the Telecom Integrator, enabling them to prepare layouts, cable block diagrams, termination diagrams, loop diagrams, cable lists, junction box lists, and bulk MTOs.
  • Review vendor data to ensure proper integration and interfacing of sub-systems.
  • Ensure interfaces with other disciplines are consistent and aligned.
  • Review documents prepared by sub-contractors to confirm quality and consistency.
  • Ensure the system complies with relevant regulatory frameworks, classification requirements, internal standards, and client specifications.
  • Provide feedback to the Group Technical Standards team to support continuous improvement and maintain technical and cost competitiveness.
  • Keep up to date with technological developments in the offshore, shipbuilding, and related industries.
  • Mentor and train less experienced telecom engineers in the technical aspects of the telecom scope.
  • Participate in the enhancement of engineering methodologies.

Requirements

  • University or Technical College (BSc degree), with at least 8 years’ experience in Telecommunication systems design in the (Offshore) Oil & Gas industry.
  • Experience with package interfaces.
  • Experience with managing remote teams.
  • Experience with Telecommunication systems for Marine applications.
  • Competent with Telecom design in hazardous areas (e.g. IECEx001).
  • Able to act as focal point regarding telecom matter.
  • Experience with the following systems as typically installed on a FPSO: VSAT, PAGA, Telephone (PABX&voip), LAN&WIFI&4G LTE, Navigational equipment, GMDSS, Metocean monitoring, radio systems (UHF,VHF Marine & Aeronautical, CCTV, Entertainment(TVRO), Tanker berthing, FPSO positioning.
  • Confident as leader.
  • A pro-active approach; taking initiative; problem solving and creative thinking; professional communication in English (verbal and written); conversant with MS Office applications; willingness to travel; team player, looking beyond discipline boundaries, safety conscious.
