Civil expert: concrete construction & soil mechanics

As an Engineer in Building Services at STAR, you will work on the largest projects every day. Will this be your next project?

Responsibilities

• As an expert, you provide technical advice within the scope of our project managers and engineers, as well as to the team’s civil discipline engineers.

• You contribute to the development of the civil engineering design up to commissioning, for both existing and new installations. You are responsible for the design and detailed engineering of the civil discipline (calculations, drawing checks, etc.), including internal guidance of the designers and other civil discipline engineers, as well as external coordination with the civil teams of various engineering partners.

• You follow up on the civil engineering design scope of several subprojects (foundations of halls and installations, foundations of conveyor belts and racks, cooling tower, bunkers, retaining walls, etc.), always with an open mind toward innovative and alternative solutions. Your added value lies in constructively challenging our engineering partners.

• You develop and optimize engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and the design basis within the team, taking into account the latest status of Belgian and European norms and standards. You serve as the main civil contact person between the GP project team and the ArcelorMittal Gent engineering department.

• You stay up to date with the latest developments and updates in Belgian and European norms and standards at a technical level, through internal and external contacts and other platforms.

• You assist the permitting team by providing the necessary technical input for building permit procedures.

• You maintain close contact with the 3D BIM coordinator to ensure that the 2D and 3D master drawings are up to date with the actual status of civil deliverables.

• You follow the preparation of tendering documents (plans, bills of quantities, technical specifications, etc.) and evaluate the technical part of the offers.

• You communicate constructively with the project manager, internal stakeholders, and contractors both before and during the construction phase.

Requirements

• You have strong technical knowledge within the civil engineering discipline.

• Your analytical skills enable you to approach problems in a structured and methodical way.

• You have good communication skills and a solid knowledge of Dutch or are willing to learn it in the short term (being multilingual is a plus).

• You are familiar with current Belgian and European Design Standards

• Experience with modeling in SCIA Engineer is a significant advantage.

• You have at least 5 years of professional experience in a similar role.

• You are a team player.

• You hold a Master’s degree in Engineering with a specialization in civil engineering.

• The project language is English.
