Senior Automation Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the process control design in the pre study, feasibility, basic engineering and detailed engineering phase of the project.
• Develop or modify process control and safeguarding philosophies/descriptions. Develop relevant logic diagrams. 
• Participate in project meetings and ensure that the process control design is according to the standards.
• Contribute to the project basis of design in all phases.
• Collaborate with Automation Contractors to ensure feasibility of the design scope for hardware and software modifications of the automation system.
• Facilitate meetings with process engineers to align the scope of process control.
• Participate in meetings with E&I design leads to align the scope of automation.
• Participate in meetings with HSE engineers to align the scope of process safeguarding.
• Participate in meetings with Cyber security specialists.
• Prepare the process automation engineering deliverable list for the project.
• Prepare the project cost estimate for process control and automation scope of work.
• Participate in HAZOP and LOPA sessions.
• Perform SIL verification calculations.
• Prepare standard operating procedures and guidelines for engineering and commissioning activities.
• Define the scope of work for the outsourced process automation engineering works.
• Supervise outsourced engineering work and check relevant documents and specifications submitted.
• Responsible for the quality of the outsourced process automation engineering works.
• Provide technical support to maintenance and operation with regards to control loops, related instrumentation, process control and safety systems (DCS, PLC and SIS);
• Interact and cooperate with other engineering disciplines and specialists like operating personnel, maintenance personnel, plant's HSE personnel, vendors' and contractors' specialists.
• Participate in commissioning and plant startup activities.
• Responsible for project closure activities related to process automation.
• Maintain and contribute professional knowledge related to process control and relevant process controls engineering tools.

Requirements

• Master or Bachelor Degree in Chemical, Process or Automation/Control Engineering;
• Minimum 8 years experience in working with EPC/EPCM companies for process control and safety system design, implementation and verification in refining, petrochemical or related industry.
• VCA-VOL certified.
• Experience in OT systems design and engineering.
• Experience in reverse engineering projects.
• Experience in defining User Requirement Specifications.
• Experience in designing and engineering DCS control typicals and HMI typicals.
• Experience with DCS, PLC and Safety Instrumentation Systems;
• Knowledge of process dynamics, best engineering practices and international standards (ISA 5, ISA 95, ISA 15 and ISA 88);
• Knowledge of relevant tools like AutoCAD, SmartPlant P&ID or SmartPlant Instrumentation, Ex-SILentia etc;
• Knowledge of project preparation and project reviews.
• Willingness to travel to NL site locations depending on project requirements.
• Fluency in English and preferably good command of the Dutch language.
