LEAD ELECTRICAL ENGINEER / OWNER’S ENGINEER – MV/LV DISTRIBUTION

As an Engineer in the petrochemical sector, you play a leading role in the design, development and improvement of a plant and you work closely together on the largest projects. Together with a team of experts, you will provide efficient and sustainable solutions that meet the highest standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and critically review the design of 36 kV and 6 kV electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, busbars, and associated equipment.
• Review 400 V and 230 V distribution networks, UPS and DC systems, and emergency power supply philosophy.
• Ensure consistency of Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs), including Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) integration.
• Review lighting, lightning protection, cathodic protection, and other auxiliary electrical systems.
• Verify compliance with applicable electrical standards and review EPLAN drawings and engineering documentation.
• Assess electrical safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc-flash protection, and safe operating procedures.
• Review and challenge the JV’s calculations, design assumptions, technical specifications, drawings, and engineering deliverables.
• Coordinate with OEMs, engineering consultants, and project stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure equipment compatibility.
• Evaluate the impact of new electrical installations on existing facilities and coordinate closely with Operations and Maintenance teams.
• Lead technical and economic trade-off assessments, ensuring proposed solutions are technically justified and fit for purpose.
• Identify design gaps, risks, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities while contributing to overall technical assurance throughout engineering and execution.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in MV/LV electrical engineering for large industrial or power-intensive facilities.
• Strong technical knowledge of electrical distribution, switchgear, UPS/DC systems, emergency power, electrical protection, and safety requirements.
• Experience with steelmaking facilities, EAF/LF installations, or complex brownfield projects is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently challenge engineering decisions.
• Proactive, adaptable, and ownership-driven, with excellent communication, stakeholder management, and prioritisation skills.
• Ability to work effectively across multiple technical interfaces in a complex project environment.
• Fluent French and English, both written and spoken, are mandatory.
