Instrumentation Engineer > Controls Engineer

Responsibilities

• Start in Instrumentation (+/-1 year):
• Select and specify instrumentation for complex installations
• Prepare and maintain:
  • instrument lists
  • technical datasheets
  • equipment specifications
• Review and evaluate supplier quotations and documentation
• Engineer and define:
  • transmitters
  • temperature element assemblies
  • flow measurement devices
  • local instruments
  • instrument hook-ups
• Work on instrumentation for package units (e.g. burners, SCR systems)
• Ensure correct technical interfaces between disciplines
• Coordinate closely with process, mechanical, electrical and supply teams
• Grow into Controls Engineering:
• Define how the installation should operate safely and efficiently
• Translate process design into control philosophy
• Create:
  • system descriptions (control narratives)
  • functional control diagrams
• Define start-up, shutdown and operational sequences
• Contribute to HAZOP and SIL studies
• Work on control scope for systems such as BMS
• Support FATs and site-related control activities
• Translate functional requirements into clear input for external PLC/DCS parties
• Act as the link between process, instrumentation and automation

Requirements

• BSc or MSc (Chemical, Mechanical, Process or similar)
• 2 - 5 years experience in process / instrumentation / controls
• Strong process understanding (more important than programming)
• Experience in multidisciplinary engineering projects
• Knowledge of measurement & control principles
• Basic DCS knowledge (PCS7 / T3000 is a plus)
• Good understanding of fluid flow & heat transfer
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• Fluent in English
• Important:
  • Not a PLC programming role
  • Focus on system understanding & control philosophy
  • No highly skilled migrant sponsorship available
