As an Engineer in the petrochemical sector, you play a leading role in the design, development and improvement of a plant and you work closely together on the largest projects. Together with a team of experts, you will provide efficient and sustainable solutions that meet the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Very good theoretical knowledge and practical experience with discipline
  • Discipline-specific support (making/updating instructions and procedures, supporting REU) 
  • Assesment of safety and quality aspect of works being executed 
  • Verification of permits
  • Review, verification and approval of contractor's RAMS (Risk Analysis Method Statement) 
  • Coordination of works
  • Start-workmeetings
  • Investigation of incidents
  • Qualitative onboarding new contractors (training and orientation)
  • Expert assessment of candidate-contractors
  • Expert advising on possible solutions, new technologies, catching up on discipline related legislation
  • Cost & effectivness control
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Verify contractor completion of site-specific safety orientation
  • Provide the contractor with site-specific contractor requirements
  • Act immediately to protect workers from imminent danger and immediately notify the SCC
  • Escort contractors with an “Escort Required” security badge
  • Be available for non-escorted contractors to answer questions
  • Provide hazard communication information to contractors when necessary
  • Provide safety-related documentation (e.g., hours worked, contractor incidents reported) as requested by the Site Contractor Coordiantor (SCC)  

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, ideally in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation or a related field. A strong theoretical foundation in electrical engineering principles and control systems is essential.
  • Professional Experience: Approximately 3–5 years of experience in an industrial engineering role focused on electrical and instrumentation projects?. Experience as an E&I engineer in a manufacturing or chemical plant environment is highly desirable for understanding the complexities of plant systems.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in Dutch and English is required?, as the role involves working with local plant staff and international team members. Effective communication in both languages is necessary for safety briefings, technical documentation, and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Project Management Skills: Proven ability to coordinate projects and lead multidisciplinary teams or contractors. Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and resources is important, as is familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems. Hands-on experience with reading P&IDs and electrical schematics, and proficiency in design software (such as AutoCAD for electrical drawings) are advantageous?. Familiarity with PLCs or DCS control systems and data acquisition is a plus, as many projects involve automation integration.
  • Industry Standards Awareness: Comfort with industry-specific standards and practices. For example, understanding of ATEX guidelines for hazardous areas, SIL (Safety Integrity Level) classifications for instrumented systems, and the Belgian General Regulations on Electrical Installations (AREI) is beneficial?. This knowledge helps in designing compliant solutions and during safety reviews.
  • Problem-Solving and Analysis: Excellent analytical skills to troubleshoot complex electrical or instrumentation issues. A proactive, solution-oriented mindset is preferred, enabling the engineer to anticipate challenges and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: A result-oriented, creative, and pro-active approach to work?. The ideal candidate is flexible and can adapt to changing project needs. Being an independent self-starter who takes initiative, yet knows when to consult team members, is highly valued.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The role demands clear communication of technical information to non-specialists and effective collaboration with a wide variety of people (from operators to external vendors)?. Leadership abilities to guide contractors and junior engineers, and the capacity to work as part of a diverse team, are important competencies.
