Process Safety Engineer

As an Engineer in the petrochemical sector, you play a leading role in the design, development and improvement of a plant and you work closely together on the largest projects. Together with a team of experts, you will provide efficient and sustainable solutions that meet the highest standards.

Responsibilities

• Identify and develop improvement initiatives to enhance plant safety while supporting business objectives
• Support and facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies, Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), and facility siting evaluations
• Manage and safeguard Process Safety Information
• Support the Management of Change (MoC) process and ensure proper implementation
• Provide process safety support to chemical and compounding operations
• Act as a key interface between process development, project implementation, operations, and maintenance
• Ensure process design and technology comply with internal procedures, applicable legislation, and engineering standards
• Ensure MOC, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), startup, and operations meet internal safety management system requirements
• Coordinate PHA study execution and align on scope, ownership, and follow-up of recommendations with stakeholders
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and define corrective actions
• Develop and implement programs to strengthen process safety culture and competency levels
• Identify and address process safety training gaps
• Support implementation of regional and global process safety initiatives
• Ensure the quality and accuracy of External Safety Reports and liaise with governmental authorities

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in chemical or mechanical engineering
• Experience with PHA methodologies and/or LOPA is preferred
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across all organizational levels
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a matrix organization
• Strong analytical, process engineering, and project management skills
• Ability to translate technical data into actionable insights
• Proficiency in Dutch and English, both spoken and written
• Proactive, flexible, and results-driven mindset
