“We have mixed feelings but every reason to be very proud.”
Easy! We moved in a single weekend. Definitely smoother than most home moves. Until Friday, 28 May, we were located on the Middenweg in Moerdijk, and from Monday, 31 May, we were based in a new office – one which STAR shares with no one – at Plaza 2. Why there? Why now? We check in with Sil Hoeve to find out all the ins and outs.
“Thanks! I am very happy with it. It’s still quite new, it’s in a wonderful location and it’s all ours. This building is the perfect place for for us for the next 20 years. And everyone has worked hard for it, so it feels like a reward.”
That’s right, STAR has been around for 20 years
“We have, and we have a host of exciting plans for the coming period for which this new building will be the perfect base. It is nice to usher in a new phase with a new building, particularly with STAR exploring new markets.
Is that the occasion, a new phase?
“No, we had to vacate the building on Middenweg. The zoning plan no longer allowed us to stay. We knew that for a while, of course, but we did our best to stay as long as we could. We were attached to our home, which it had been from the very start 20 years ago. But staying really was not an option, so we started looking for something else.
“Staying in Moerdijk was a priority, for the sake of familiarity and convenience for staff. Of course, it wasn’t an an easy ask with so many square metres, definitely not during corona. But corona did give us the advantage of favourable prices. In the end, after a long search, the perfect building found us rather than the other way around. It’s the old office of a client who built it just a year ago, but outgrew it within 12 months thanks to their success.”
Not a reject?
“No, certainly not! It is a great match for us: modern, but not overly hip. Like STAR and its services. Besides, it needs almost no work, given that it is still completely fresh and new. We really got lucky in that respect, as a building that you can move into right away saves a lot of investment. We just need to give it our own finishing touch, so that it really becomes STAR, and we’re still in the process of doing that.”
“It’s also really nice that we’re growing considerably. We’re moving into new countries and markets, so our team is evolving. The back office in Moerdijk is expanding, new teams are being created to cater for new areas of expertise, and we can host everything right here. It really is a STAR HQ! In all honesty, we can’t believe our luck.”
So, when is the housewarming?
Well, corona has thrown a spanner in the works for now. But we will throw one as soon as we can! We have a few parties to catch up on anyway. Once the measures allow it, everyone will be welcome, because this building is something to proudly celebrate.
