Senior Project Engineer Piping & Mechanical

As an Engineer in the petrochemical sector, you play a leading role in the design, development and improvement of a plant and you work closely together on the largest projects. Together with a team of experts, you will provide efficient and sustainable solutions that meet the highest standards.

Responsibilities

• Act as the Mechanical & Piping discipline engineer within multidisciplinary project teams
• Translate process and project requirements into mechanical and piping concepts and detailed designs
• Develop, review, and approve layouts, equipment specifications, P&IDs, piping routes, and isometrics
• Provide technical coordination and steer external engineering partners and contractors for mechanical and piping scopes
• Prepare technical specifications, RFQs, and tender documents
• Perform technical evaluations of quotations and support supplier selection
• Review and approve engineering deliverables, technical specifications, and contractor selections
• Conduct technical alignment with suppliers of mechanical equipment and piping components
• Participate in technical clarifications
• Follow up on fabrication, delivery, and installation
• Support the project manager with cost estimates, planning, and risk assessments for mechanical and piping activities. For smaller projects, you will manage this independently.
• Coordinate and follow up execution activities on site
• Ensure compliance with technical standards, safety rules, and quality requirements
• Manage and follow up punch lists through to complete mechanical handover
• Provide support during pre-commissioning and start-up of mechanical and piping installations
• Safeguard scope, budget, timing, and quality within the mechanical and piping discipline throughout the full project lifecycle

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electromechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical and piping engineering within an industrial or project environment, with in-depth knowledge of:
• Mechanical installations, both static and rotating equipment
• Piping systems, materials, supports, and installation techniques
• Pumps, valves, and basic thermodynamics
• At least 3 years of experience as a Project Engineer within the Mechanical & Piping discipline
• Intensive collaboration on at least one project with an engineering partner, where you coordinated the mechanical and piping discipline
• Experience in brownfield environments is a strong asset
• Ability to work independently with 2D and/or 3D design tools, such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or equivalent
• Proven experience in preparing technical specifications and tender documents
• Non-Technical profile requirements
• Able to work independently, coordinate activities, and set priorities within a project-based environment
• Assertive and communicative, with strong stakeholder management skills
• Hands-on, pragmatic, and results-oriented
• Strong sense of responsibility and ownership of assigned scopes, including cost-conscious design of installations
• Methodology/Certification requirements
• Knowledge of industrial CAPEX project methodologies
• Familiar with relevant mechanical and piping standards and good engineering practices
• VCA-VOL certificate, or willingness to obtain this in line with site requirements, is an asset
• Language proficiencies
• Fluent in Dutch, both written and spoken
• Good command of English, sufficient for technical documentation and business discussions
