As an Engineer in the petrochemical sector, you play a leading role in the design, development and improvement of a plant and you work closely together on the largest projects. Together with a team of experts, you will provide efficient and sustainable solutions that meet the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage engineering activities for large-scale brownfield and greenfield CAPEX projects, with primary focus on building services (ventilation, heating/VVS, potable water) and BMS/HVAC integration.
  • Own interface coordination and constructability reviews (gransdragning) to identify clashes, reduce rework, and optimize plant layouts.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet safety, quality, regulatory, and project requirements throughout design, procurement and construction phases.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary projekteringsledning across internal teams, external consultants, equipment suppliers and construction subcontractors.
  • Challenge design-to-cost proposals, support procurement alignment, and track engineering cost forecasts and performance.
  • Govern and support the Engineering Management Office to improve engineering support services, workflows and partner performance.
  • Drive technical decisions on HVAC, sprinkler, BMS integration and plant equipment layouts with a focus on operational reliability and start-up readiness.
  • Follow up engineering schedules and ensure timely delivery of drawings, specifications and certifications required for construction and commissioning.
  • Mentor and lead engineering team members, promoting collaboration, safety-first culture and continuous improvement.
  • This role reports to the Engineering Director and maintains a direct working relationship with the Construction Area Project Manager. The Engineering Manager operates within the Transformation Office supporting SSAB’s future mills and is accountable for engineering delivery for the Cold Mill Complex at the Luleå site.

Requirements

  • Experienced engineering leader with a pragmatic, hands-on approach and strong communication skills in both English and Swedish.
  • Strategic thinker who coordinates complex interfaces while keeping safety, cost and constructability central to decisions.
  • Collaborative and inclusive manager who thrives in multicultural project environments and supports growth of team members.
  • Result-oriented project leader who can balance governance, technical depth and partner management to meet tight schedules.
  • Required:
  • Minimum 10 years industry experience, including at least 5 years of hands-on engineering leadership; minimum 5 years working in Sweden.
  • Proven track record managing large industrial projects (steel, pulp & paper, refinery, oil & gas or similar) with responsibility for engineering delivery.
  • Deep technical knowledge of HVAC systems, VVS, potable water systems, sprinkler systems and BMS/HVAC integration applicable to Nordic conditions and standards.
  • Strong experience in interface coordination, constructability reviews and aligning technical requirements with project objectives.
  • Fluency in English and Swedish, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge forecasts, control engineering costs and drive on-time delivery from engineering partners.
  • Nice to have:
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP, IPMA) or equivalent training.
  • Civil engineering experience or education related to heavy industry plant projects.
  • Experience with brownfield mill upgrades and start-up coordination in heavy process industries.
  • Familiarity with Swedish and European codes and standards for building services and industrial installations.
