Lead Senior Buyer – Capital Projects

Job Purpose:

To provide leadership to the Capital Projects Procurement Team. Provide local commercial management of capital project procurement strategies and activities acting as the Team Lead Senior Buyer, setting standards and developing best practice policies and procedures for capital project procurement activities.

This is a dual role operating within a matrix organisation providing day to day management of the local procurement team including ensuring the team complies with all local safety and regulatory obligations, managing resources to meet customer demand and fully engaging with Group Procurement initiatives.

As a Senior Buyer the role also includes the contribution to global capital project strategies, deployment of local strategic sourcing activities and the management of key supplier relationships.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performance manage the delivery of individuals targets in the local team in cooperation with Capital Project Procurement Manager
  • Manage the relationship between Group Projects, Group Procurement and local site teams. Ensure Procurement is fully engaged with the site and there is joint alignment of objectives. Build SME relationships to manage spend locally.
  • Ensure local P2P service levels are managed by making resources available as necessary and helping prioritisation, liaising with the Operations Team Lead to improve efficiency of the process.
  • Optimise value and drive performance improvement by setting standards and developing best practice policies and procedures for capital procurement activities. Deploy to Group Projects stakeholders,  project procurement teams and Group Procurement providing appropriate training, tools, techniques, templates
  • Select contracting methodologies and suppliers, executing contracts to deliver the objectives of major/complex capital investment projects. Providing project management of the end to end strategic sourcing process and coordination of multidisciplinary project teams. Provide appropriate challenge to the status quo setting new expectations for value delivery/service performance of suppliers.
  • Provide day to day management of the Procurement team including resource management, performance improvement planning and personal professional development of the team
  • Manage key local supplier relationships, and all local supplier relationships associated with Capital Projects.


Candidate overview:            

  • Degree (or equivalent) 
  • CIPS qualification (or equivalent)
  • Commercial Management of an area of spend in a category management environment
  • Team leadership in a matrix type organisation.
  • Management of senior stakeholder relationships
  • Can work autonomously
  • Large complex capital projects procurement experience (€100m+)
  • Large project coordination experience
