  • The Senior Principal Lead Process Systems Engineer is a key member of a project team and is responsible for driving the work process with a multi-disciplined project team to produce a project specific P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram).
  • The Process Systems engineers sit within the Process Engineering team and provide engineering and commissioning support for new capital industrial gas plants that serve a range of industries including Petrochemical, steel, electronics, refineries. 
  • Some example projects include Air Separation, Hydrogen steam methane reformers, carbon monoxide plants, Helium extraction plants and ammonia plants. Detailed engineering support will be required, which could include supporting an in-house design team or supporting an outside engineering design company. 
  • This open position will be part of EMEA Regional Engineering Team.
  • As our Senior Principal Lead Process Systems Engineer, you will:
    • Develop and manage project P&ID’s, Cause and Effect Matrix, Critical Safety System tables and operating procedures/training manuals.
    • Lead P&ID review meetings and managing the resolution of technical issues raised by the project team.
    • Participate in the hazard review process and other safety evaluations (SIL and Fault Tree Experience a plus).
    • Participate in the review of Process Flow Diagrams, Scope Reports and Technical Descriptions.
    • Drive the work process within a multi-disciplined project team to produce a project specific P&ID ensuring that plant reliability, operability and maintenance capabilities are considered.
    • Ensure that the P&ID is produced in accordance with company standards/procedures and any customer specific requirements.
    • Coordinate functional issues involving plant reliability, operability, and maintenance.
    • Agree the P&ID execution strategy and work split between teams/regions. 
    • Manage the project hours budget and produce work to project schedule.
    • Complete monthly forecasting and manage any scope changes.
    • Provide input into the plant design by reviewing the 3D piping model and overall facility arrangement (Plot Plan).
    • For complex projects participate in the DCS (Distributed Control System) staging (SAT, Software Acceptance Test) and field validation.
    • For some projects there may be opportunity to participate in field-commissioning activities including Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), Plant Start-up and assist with the development and implementation of reliability test plans.
    • Provide feedback to our product teams based on actual project experience.
    • Mentor and help train less experienced Systems Engineers.
    • Support continuous improvement opportunities to ensure maximum benefits from the use of the SPPID and associated work processes.


  • Our ideal Senior Principal Lead Process Systems Engineer holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and has 10-15+ years of experience.
  • Will have significant work experience in Gas, Petrochemicals, Chemical or related industries in fire protection, loss prevention, process safety or plant engineering.
  • Experience in the area of Fire Protection is critical to this role.
  • Experience and understanding of process engineering deliverables such as P&ID’s, safety relief demand scenarios, and basic function of unit operations is required.
  • Experience in safety monitoring equipment, instrumentation, process control and HVAC.
  • Our ideal Senior Principal Lead Process Systems Engineer, will have working knowledge of PHA software (PHAWorks, PHAPro), PHAST are required.
  • Good leadership skills, good engineering problem-solving skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, and passion about the job mission.
